China Builds Temporary Shelters for People Affected by the Earthquake in Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw

Nay Pyi Taw, April 3 (AseanAll)  — On the afternoon of April 2, 2025,the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD), in collaboration with local forces, built the first temporary international relief shelter for people affected by the March 28 earthquake in Myanmar using the relief supplies from China.

That night, CITIC Myanmar and the CFRD jointly completed the construction of the second shelter, which is located in Nay Pyi Taw.

These shelters can accommodate 900 people.

Subsequently, China FAW will also collaborate with the CFRD to build more shelters in Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw.

The earthquake caused severe damage to buildings in areas such as Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw. Water and power supplies were disrupted, and the intense heat nearing 40 degrees Celsius, coupled with mosquito bites, exacerbated the hardships faced by the affected people. The Chinese government, institutions and enterprises promptly extended assistance and stepped up efforts to carry out post-disaster shelter allocation, relief, water supply, and sanitation and epidemic control measures.

On April 3, the medical team of the China International Search and Rescue Team provided medical services including consultations, physical examinations and wound debridement to the affected people at the shelter near the Mingalar Market in Mandalay.
