Ambassador of Algeria to ASEAN presents Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN

Jakarta, March 14 (AseanAll)  — Ambassador Abdelouahab Osmane presented his Letter of Credence as the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to ASEAN to Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat on March 13, 2025.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Abdelouahab Osmane on his assumption of office and looked forward to working closely with him and the Embassy of Algeria in Jakarta to strengthen ASEAN-Algeria relations. He encouraged Algeria to explore opportunities for possible cooperation with ASEAN in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, connectivity, energy, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Dr. Kao looked forward to Algeria’s signing of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) this year, which will mark the conclusion of its formal accession to the Treaty. He also expressed appreciation to Algeria for its commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with the region, including through its application to become an Observer of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) this year.

Abdelouahab Osmane underlined Algeria ‘s interest in promoting stronger relations between ASEAN and Algeria. He further expressed his readiness to explore possible cooperation with ASEAN and the ASEAN Member States.

Algeria has accredited its Ambassador to ASEAN since 2016. Ambassador Abdelouahab Osmane is the fourth Ambassador of Algeria to ASEAN, succeeding the previous Ambassador who had completed his tenure in May 2024.
