Chinese Embassy in Brunei Hosts the 2025 China Day & Lantern Festival

(AseanAll)  —  On the occasion of Lantern Festival, Chinese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, together with Brunei-China Friendship Association, Chinese Enterprise Association in Brunei and Chung Hwa Middle School, BSB co-organized the 2025 China Day & Lantern Festival on 12th and 13th February,2025. 

Chinese Ambassador to Brunei  Xiao Jianguo, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei Yang Mulia Awang Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin as the Guest of Honor, member of the Legislative Council YB Awang Lau How Teck, YB Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin, together with over 2000 guests from governments, diplomatic corps, overseas Chinese communities, Chinese enterprises, volunteer teachers, international students as well as friends from all walks of life joined the celebration to enjoy the charm of traditional Chinese culture.

Xiao Jianguo invited the Guest of Honor and co-organizers to officiate the celebration by lighting the lanterns of the event. 

During his welcoming remark, Xiao Jianguo introduced traditions of the Lantern Festival and extended best wishes to all attendees and the Bruneian friends. He reviewed the achievements of China's economic development and the fruitful results of China-Brunei relations over the past year, and highlighted the successful state visit to China by His Majesty the Sultan during the Chinese New Year, and the bilateral meeting between the two heads of state navigating bilateral relations towards a new era of building a China-Brunei community with a shared future. 

Xiao Jianguo emphasized that China stands ready to collaborate with Brunei to follow the strategic consensus reached by the two heads of state to enhance political mutual trust, expand win-win cooperation, so as to yield more concrete outcomes which will benefit two countries and their peoples. 

Dr. Li Feng, President of Chinese Enterprise Association in Brunei introduced in his speech the fruitful results of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and Brunei over the past year, and expressed the commitment of Chinese enterprises in Brunei to continuously work with Bruneian friends to further expand economic and trade cooperation by deeply participating in the nation’s construction so as to make greater contributions to the development of China-Brunei relations.

The guests enjoyed a variety of Chinese cultural exhibitions and activities such as martial arts, guzheng, lion dance, Chinese calligraphy, and lantern riddles. The event received extensive coverage from Borneo Bulletin, as well as United Daily, Sin Chew Daily and See Hua Daily. Local influencers also shared videos and pictures on social medias.
