Kampong Speu, December 23 (AseanAll) — A training course on civil engineering under the Cambodia-Japan Capacity Building Project on Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) kicked off at the Training Centre for Peacekeeping Forces in Oudong district, Kampong Speu province,Cambodia, on December 23,2024.
The course’s opening ceremony was presided over by Lt. Gen. Tan Saly, Deputy Director General of the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, Mines, and Explosive Remnants of War Clearance (NPMEC) of Cambodia , and Lt. Col. Takahashi Shinobu, Representative of the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force.
The six-week-long training course is conducted by 16 Japanese military professors with the participation of 30 Cambodian blue helmet troops, including 3 women.
Lt. Gen. Tan Saly said the training course, to be held from December 23, 2024 to January 30, 2025, focuses on the use of heavy machinery such as excavators, safety and maintenance awareness, as well as understanding on women for peace and security.
According to Lt. Col. Takahashi Shinobu, also head of the Japanese military professors, since 2013, the Japanese side has supported 12 training courses in construction site management skills, horizontal construction engineering skills, and so on with a total of 240 participants.
