Bandar Seri Begawan, October 8 (AseanAll) — The 17th Joint Defence Commission (JDC) meeting was convened between the Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Defence United Kingdom on October 8, 2024.
The meeting was co-chaired by Yang Mulia Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam, and Mr. Nick Gurr, Director International Security, Ministry of Defence United Kingdom. Defence and military officials from both countries were also in attendance.
The meeting began with opening remarks from both co-chairs, reaffirming the close and special bond of friendship and bilateral relations between both sides in all areas of cooperation. During the meeting, a comprehensive defence overview was presented, followed by discussions on the status of bilateral agreements including service to service engagements.
The defence bilateral relationship between Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom has steadily strengthened especially with the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1984 and the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of a Joint Commission on Defence Cooperation in 2002.
