Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy Commander Makes Introductory Visit to Singapore

(AseanAll)  — Commander of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, Admiral (ADM) Hu Zhongming, called on Singapore Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) of Singapore on the afternoon of August 5,2024 .

During their meeting, Dr Ng and ADM Hu discussed regional security developments and cooperation between both navies, including the conduct of the third edition of Exercise Maritime Cooperation in China later this year.

ADM Hu, who was in Singapore for his introductory visit from 3 to 5 August 2024, also called on Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng and Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Sean Wat after inspecting the Guard of Honour at MINDEF on the morning of August 5.

As part of his visit, ADM Hu visited Changi Naval Base on August 4, where he received a brief at the Information Fusion Centre, and visited the RSN’s Formidable-class frigate RSS Supreme and submarine support and rescue vessel MV Swift Rescue.

ADM Hu’s visit underscores the longstanding, warm and friendly bilateral defence relations between Singapore and China. The RSN and the PLA Navy interact regularly through mutual visits, port calls and cross-attendance of courses. These interactions deepen mutual understanding and strengthen people-to-people ties between personnel from both navies.
