Vientiane, February 17 (AseanAll) — Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith received in Vientiane on Feb 13 a courtesy call from Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen as the latter was on an official visit to Laos to strengthen relations and cooperation between Laos and Cambodia between Feb 13 and 14.

According to Lao News Agency KPL on February 16，expressing warm welcome to the Cambodian premier, Lao President Thongloun highly valued the visit of the Cambodian leader and his delegation as a significant contribution to strengthening the bilateral relations, traditional solidarity, and long-lasting and comprehensive strategic partnership between the Lao PDR and the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The President expressed appreciation for the significant achievements the Cambodian people have made in various areas under the leadership of Hun Sen as well as Cambodia’s successful chairmanship of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related summits in 2022 and the 5th communal elections in June 2022 which saw Cambodian People’s Party winning a landslide victory.
He also appreciated the successful discussion between the Prime Ministers of Laos and Cambodia as the two leaders reached agreement on many issues including the signing of the Treaty on Borderline which serves as a key document for addressing issues on the common border of the two countries, and the Action Plan for the Comprehensive and Long-Lasting Strategic Partnership between the Lao PDR and the Kingdom of Cambodia for the year 2023-2027.

Thongloun called on the two Prime Ministers to lead the relevant ministries of the two countries in translating the signed documents into reality, promoting cooperation especially on economy, trade, tourism to bring benefits to peoples of Laos and Cambodia.
The President asked the Cambodian Prime Minister to convey his invitation to King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia to pay a state visit to the Lao PDR at his convenience.

On the occasion, the President also awarded the Cambodian Prime Minister a Phoxay Lanexang medal, a medal given to a foreign leader in recognition of his or her meritorious achievements and contribution to strengthening and protecting the friendship and cooperation with the Lao PDR.
