Laos, Russia enhance cooperation

(AseanAll)  — Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith and a delegation of high-ranking officials visited the Russian Federation on May 8-10 in response to the invitation of the Russian President Vladimir Putin,according to Lao state news agency KPL.

The visit aimed to strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Laos and Russia and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Amity (1994-2024).

Thongloun met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Thongloun appreciated his counterpart on his reelection as President of Russia and the comprehensive achievements made by the government and people of Russia over the past years.

Both sides highly valued the outcomes of the Laos-Russia strategic partnership which has been deepened and fruitful in spheres of politics, security, education, among others.

They agreed to further promote cooperation on economy, trade, investment, science – techniques, tourism, energy, scientific research, among others. Both sides also exchanged points of view on regional and international issues of common interest.

Thongloun also met with Chairperson of United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev, attended as a guest of honor a parade to mark the 79th anniversary of the Victory Day of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War and visited Herzen State Pedagogical University in Saint Petersburg.

On this occasion, Lao president also received a courtesy call from Governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Beglov and was pinned with a Honorary Professorship Award from the university. The president studied at the university in the 1970s.
