(AseanAll) — The 13th Japan-ASEAN Defense Vice-Ministerial Forum was held on 30 January 2024 at Prince Hotel, Tokyo, Japan.
The forum, chaired by Kiyoshi Serizawa, Vice-Minister of Defense for International Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Japan, was attended by senior defence officials of ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste and ASEAN Secretariat.
The Forum, which was established in 2009, aims at sharing perspectives on current security challenges in the region and exchanging views for the future defence cooperation between Japan and ASEAN, which will contribute to regional peace, stability and prosperity.
This year, the forum focused on Japan-ASEAN Ministerial Initiative for Enhanced Defense Cooperation (JASMINE) as a follow-up to the ASEAN-Japan Defence Ministers’ Informal Meeting held in Jakarta on 15 November 2023. The new initiative aims to build on the spirit of Japan-ASEAN Defense Cooperation Framework or also known as Vientiane Vision 2.0 with the introduction of new capacity building programmes.
