Indonesian President to Chair 12 Meetings during the 43rd ASEAN Summit

Jakarta, September 1  (AseanAll)  — Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is scheduled to attend 25 meetings at the 43rd Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta on 5-7 September 2023.

"In three days, President Jokowi will attend 25 meetings during the 43rd ASEAN Summit," said Foreign Minister Retno L. Marsudi when giving a press statement at the 43rd ASEAN Summit Media Center provided by the Ministry of Communications and Informatics (Kominfo), JCC, Jakarta, on September 1, 2023).


The meetings include 12 Summit sessions that will be chaired directly by the President.  In addition, the President will conduct 13 bilateral meetings with the countries attending the meeting.


The twelve summits will be in the forms of plenary sessions, informal meetings, the ASEAN-China Summit, the ASEAN-South Korea Summit, and the ASEAN-Japan Summit, the ASEAN-United States Summit, the ASEAN-Canada Summit, the ASEAN-India Summit, the ASEAN-Australia Summit, the ASEAN-United Nations (UN) Summit, the ASEAN Plus Three Summit (China, Japan, South Korea), and the East Asia Summit.


Out of a total of 22 countries attending, 11 are ASEAN countries, namely Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Timor Leste.


Partner countries invited are the Republic of Korea, India, Japan, China, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Russia, and the United States (US).


Indonesia also requests the presence of two other countries: Bangladesh as Chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and Cooks Islands as Chair of the Pacific Island Forum (PIF).


International organizations such as the United Nations (UN), World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Economic Forum, IORA, and PIF will also participate.
