Singapore, July 26 (AseanAll) — Singaporean Government has appointed Mr Sudesh Maniar as the next Singapore Ambassador to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
On July 25, the Letter of Credence Ceremony was held, and President of Singapore Halimah Yacob extended credit to Mr Sudesh Maniar,according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore.
Letter of credence are the official documents that accredit a diplomat as an ambassador or high commissioner to another country.
Mr Maniar was Singapore’s High Commissioner to New Zealand from 2019 to 2023. Prior to this, he was Director-General of the Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Directorate from 2013 to 2019. He also served concurrently as Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste from 2015 to 2019.
Mr Maniar joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1997. He served as Deputy Permanent Representative in the Singapore Permanent Mission in Geneva from 2002 to 2005. He also served in various other capacities in the Ministry covering International Organisations, International Economics, and Public Affairs. He was seconded to the Asia-Europe Foundation as Director of Public Affairs from 2007 to 2009.
Mr Maniar graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom in 1986.
Mr Maniar was awarded the Long Service Medal in 2021. He is married to Madam Loo Beng Du and they have one daughter.
