Phnom Penh , May 18 (AseanAll) — The 32nd Southeast Asian Games or SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia was officially concluded on the evening of May 17 in a solemn ceremony, and as the host, Cambodia achieved a remarkable record of 282 medals in total, of which 81 are gold, 74 are silver, and 127 are bronze, sitting fourth among 11 participating countries.
According to the Cambodia's state news agency AKP, this auspicious event took place at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh under the presidency of Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and his spouse, Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen, together with more than 60,000 local and international guests.
On the morning of May 17, on his social media network, Hun Sen underlined that this is the achievement of the whole nation who is striving to build a nation in general and the sports sector in particular.
This is the highest medal record for Cambodia since it rejoined the games in 1999 with no medal at all, he added.
Series of musical and art performances by famous local singers, dancers and artists, especially “The Great Soul of Kun Bokotor” martial arts performance were featured on the occasion to cheer the successful organisation of the regional sports games by Cambodia, along with the parade of athletes and a video highlighting activities of SEA Games athletes.
In his remarks, Hun Sen expressed his appreciation for all medalists and all the athletes, and thanked all stakeholders for this successful outcome.
After that, there were an Award Ceremony for the Best Athletes of the 32nd SEA Games and Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) Flag Lowering Ceremony.
At the end of the programme, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Tea Banh, President of the Cambodian SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games Organising Committees (CAMSOC-CAMAPGOC), handed over the SEAGF flag to Thailand as the host of 33rd SEA Games 2025, followed by “Cambodian Pride” musical performance and amazing firework display.
After the successful and historical organisation of the 32nd SEA Games, Cambodia will also host from June 3-9, 2023 another regional sport event named the 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023 as more than 2,000 para athletes are due to compete during that period.
