Phnom Penh, September 23 (AseanAll) — On the afternoon of 23 September 2026, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from Mr Wang Xu, President of Huawei Southeast Asia, and his delegation.
During the meeting, the President expressed his profound gratitude to HUN Manet for receiving him and his delegation for the courtesy call and working discussion. He commended Cambodia’s progress across all sectors, particularly the rollout of 5G mobile services and the increasing adoption of renewable energy in the country. At the same time, he also expressed his satisfaction with the excellent cooperation in the technology sector between Huawei and relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions.
Wang Xu also briefed HUN Manet on Huawei’s contributions to human resource development in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, including the provision of training courses for government leaders and officials, as well as Train-the-Trainer (ToT) programmes to further develop the skills of Cambodian students.
Furthermore, Wang Xu shared Huawei’s experience in using technological systems, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to track and identify online scam operations, as well as its experience in developing a digital economy ecosystem for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He also emphasised the importance of data protection and human resource development in the digital sector.
In response, HUN Manet expressed his pleasure at meeting with the Regional President. He concurred on the importance of developing digital human resources and highlighted certain risks associated with the use of AI, emphasising that all stakeholders must pay close attention to these issues.
Regarding efforts to combat technology-enabled scam crimes, HUN Manet underscored the necessity of strengthening the capacity of law enforcement officers and proactively using technological tools to enhance the effectiveness of combating online scams.
Concerning the technology sector, HUN Manet emphasised that the Royal Government of Cambodia consistently places high priority on ICT human resource development, ensuring the safe deployment of AI, strengthening cybersecurity, safeguarding data sovereignty, and promoting technology transfer.
Before concluding the meeting, HUN Manet encouraged the President to continue closely engaging with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions, particularly the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, to further deepen and expand cooperation in the technology sector.
