Cambodia, Singapore Committed to Further Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Cooperation

Cebu, May 8 (AseanAll)  — Cambodia and Singapore have highly valued and committed to further fostering their long-standing and fruitful relations and cooperation.

The commitment was underscored during the bilateral meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Philippines, on May 7,2026.

Lawrence Wong noted that the meeting reflected the close ties and strong commitment of both countries to further strengthen and expand cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels. He reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to maintaining the positive momentum of the close partnership between the two nations.

In response, Hun Manet expressed satisfaction with the continued progress in Cambodia-Singapore relations and cooperation, including the recent entry into force of the Second Protocol amending the Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to taxes on income.

The Cambodian Premier noted that the agreement would help attract more Singaporean investors to Cambodia. He also welcomed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on food security between the two governments.

Hun Manet expressed optimism that both countries would continue exploring new opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation across various sectors and further strengthen partnerships between the private sectors of both nations.

During the meeting, Hun Manet also informed Prime Minister Lawrence Wong that Cambodia will begin implementing its military conscription law in 2026 and expressed hope that Singapore would continue sharing its experience to support the smooth implementation of the policy.

The two leaders also discussed strengthening cooperation in trade, energy, defence, and security, while exchanging views on several regional and international issues within ASEAN and other multilateral frameworks.
