Bangkok, February 23 (AseanAll) — On February 20, 2026, Thai Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana disclosed that Thai Ministry of Commerce’s Department of Business Development has continuously driven forwardthe nation’s digital economy by encouraging Thai SMEs to leverage e‑commerce and social commerce platforms, such as, Shopee and TikTok, as primary channels for their market expansion to generate more income and reach consumers across the country. 
The Department of Business Development places importance on a policy to enhance competitiveness of the Thai SMEs in this digital economy era, and has implemented various promotional campaigns, i.e., Online Marketing Genius (OMG), Digital Village, Smart Local, MOC Biz Club, and The Influencer Journey, while comprehensively developing their digital skills, content creation, live selling, and online identity building.
In 2025, SME entrepreneurs who participated in the Department’s campaigns generated the combined sales of more than 2.384 billion Baht across two platforms, the growth of 370% compared to the previous year. Shopee recorded the total sales of 1.0612 billion Baht from 1,209 sellers, an increase of 425.59%, whereas TikTok Shop recorded total sales of 1.3228 billion Baht from 454 sellers, an increase of 314.68%.
Sales structure clearly reflects online market demand. On Shopee, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) accounted for the highest share at 44.56%, followed by fashion at 27.14%, lifestyle at 26.56%, and electronics at 1.31%, whereas on TikTok Shop, FMCG accounted for 66.67%, followed by Lifestyle at 20.37%, Fashion at 9.88%, and Electronics at 3.09%.
This accomplishment is a result of an effort to comprehensively develop SME entrepreneurs, from enhancing digital skills, content creation, live selling, and linking landing pages, to applying joint promotional strategies with platforms, enabling the Thai SMEs to ‘truly sell, truly profit, and grow sustainably.’
The Government, through Ministry of Commerce, commits to continue promoting the use of digital platforms as primary tools to expand markets among the Thai SMEs to increase business opportunities and collectively drive Thailand’s economic growth in the digital era, in parallel with supporting the development of Thai private‑sector e‑commerce platforms.
