Myanmar’s New Ambassador to China Visits the ASEAN-China Centre

(AseanAll)  — On 23 January 2026, Shi Zhongjun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), met with Zaw Win Myint, the new Ambassador of Myanmar to China, at the ACC Secretariat. 

Shi Zhongjun extended a warm welcome to Zaw Win Myint on his first visit to the ACC after assuming his post, introduced the mission, purposes and functional structure of the ACC, and reviewed the work carried out by the ACC in 2025. The two sides exchanged views on Myanmar-China relations, ASEAN-China relations, as well as future cooperation.  

Shi Zhongjun noted that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between   Myanmar and China, and is another fruitful year for cooperation between ASEAN countries and China. Adhering to the mission and purposes of implementing the consensus of the leaders and aligning development strategies of ASEAN and China, the ACC is committed to practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. The ACC has maintained close exchanges and cooperation with the Myanmar side, achieving concrete results. 2026 marks the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the ACC. With enormous potential for Myanmar-China cooperation, the ACC looks forward to maintaining dialogue and communication with the Ambassador and the Embassy, deepening cooperation in fields such as agriculture, animal husbandry, tourism, and vocational education, to fully unleash Myanmar’s development potential, and enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two sides.

Zaw Win Myint stated that he has a special attachment for China, taking which as his second homeland, and feels honored to serve as Ambassador to China. The ACC has played a positive role in promoting and deepening cooperation between ASEAN countries and China. National stability in Myanmar is crucial for development. Myanmar is keen to learn from China for its own modernization and development. He looks forward to participating in the ACC’s various activities this year, which will contribute to Myanmar-China relations and Myanmar’s national development.
