Myanmar opposes and protests against the contact between the government of Timor-Leste and anti- Myanmar Government groups

Nay Pyi Taw, January 19 (AseanAll)  — U Hau Khan Sum, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, summoned Mr. Elisio do Rosario de Sousa, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. of the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Yangon on 16 January 2026 to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the meeting, the Permanent Secretary expressed Myanmar’s strong objection and protest against the Government of Timor-Leste for interfering in Myanmar’s internal affairs and for engaging with anti- Myanmar Government groups. 

The Permanent Secretary underscored that such actions violate Timor-Leste’s commitment to adhere to the ASEAN Charter and its fundamental principles, and handed over an Aide Mémoire to the Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. of the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
