Chinese Ambassador-Designate to Brunei Presents the Copy of Letter of Credence

Bandar Seri Begawan, January 12 (AseanAll)  — On January 12, 2026,Chen Shaochun, Ambassador-designate of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, presented the copy of the Letter of Credence to Haji Muhamad Fakhri bin Haji Mohd Taib, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei.

Chen Shaochun noted that it is a profound honor and significant responsibility to be appointed as the Chinese Ambassador to Brunei as the two countries celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. 

Ambassador Chen stated that, China and Brunei are friendly neighbors across the sea and share a time-honored friendship, he would faithfully follow the strategic guidance of the important consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to fulfill his duties, so as to promote more solid progress in advancing a China-Brunei community with a shared future. Ambassador Chen expected that he would receive strong support from various sectors in Brunei, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Fakhri warmly welcomed Ambassador Chen, and highlighted that His Majesty's successful state visit to China last year and the frequent high-level exchanges between the two countries, as well as fruitful results of pragmatic cooperation in various sectors, fully demonstrated the strategic and high-level nature of bilateral relations. He expressed confidence that Ambassador Chen will elevate bilateral relations to new heights during his tenure, and stated that the Brunei side will provide strong support and facilitation to Ambassador Chen.

On January 9th, 2026, Chen Shaochun, the newly-appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, and Madame Wu Yi arrived in Brunei to assume their posts.
