Beijing, December 11 (AseanAll)  — On December 11, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister II of Brunei Dato' Erywan Pehin Yusof in Beijing,China.

Wang Yi stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah have reached important common understandings on building a China-Brunei community with a shared future, which has charted the course for the development of China-Brunei relations in the new era and injected impetus into the building of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future. Next year, the two countries will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. China is ready to work with Brunei, taking the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state as the fundamental guideline, to maintain high-level exchanges, enhance strategic communication, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen multilateral collaboration, and take new steps in promoting the building of a China-Brunei community with a shared future.

Wang Yi stated that next year will also mark the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. China has always pursued a neighborhood diplomacy featuring amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness, as well as good neighborliness and friendship, and has regarded ASEAN as its closest cooperation partner. China is willing to continue mutual support and mutual trust with ASEAN, synergize development strategies, create cooperation highlights, uphold open regionalism, pursue true multilateralism, resist any form of unilateral bullying and Cold War mentality, and stand together as important forces for regional prosperity and stability.

Wang Yi elaborated on China's principled position on the Taiwan question and the serious harm caused by the erroneous remarks of Japan's current leader on Taiwan. He commended Brunei for upholding the one-China principle over the years and expressed hope and belief that Brunei will fully understand China's position, continue to firmly support the just cause of the Chinese people in safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, and jointly defend the post-war international order and the principles of human conscience and justice.

Dato' Erywan Pehin Yusof said that the successful meeting between the two heads of state in Beijing earlier this year has provided guidance and momentum for the development of bilateral relations. Brunei attaches great importance to developing relations with China, recognizes that Taiwan is part of the People's Republic of China, and will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy and support China's great cause of national reunification. Brunei is willing to take the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year as an opportunity to strengthen high-level exchanges with China, enhance political mutual trust, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, deepen cooperation in sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture and fisheries, and work for greater development of Brunei-China relations. Against the backdrop of rising uncertainties in the current international situation, regional countries should strengthen cooperation and jointly resist unilateralism and neocolonialism. China remains the most important force in promoting regional solidarity and stability. As China and ASEAN are natural partners, Brunei is willing to closely cooperate with China within the framework of ASEAN-China relations to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership between both sides and bring benefits to the people of all countries in the region. Brunei fully supports China in successfully hosting the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting next year and looks forward to China's greater influence and leadership in international and regional affairs.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern. Both sides agreed to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea and accelerate the consultation on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea. Both sides agreed that the international community should strive for a genuine, comprehensive and lasting ceasefire on the Palestinian-Israeli issue, act on the principle of "Palestinians governing Palestine", adhere unswervingly to the general direction of the two-State solution, avoid double standards, and work towards realizing lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
