In an interview with Chinese and Japanese media at the airport, Wu Jianghao said that the important mission of his current appointment is to maintain and develop healthy and stable China-Japan relations. China and Japan are separated by a strip of water and a reed is navigable. In the long course of history, the two peoples have learned from each other, and their relations have gone through ups and downs. Entering the new era, as close neighbors forever, we should draw lessons from history, create a better future, and enjoy peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation. We should stick to the principles set out in the four political documents between China and Japan, follow the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, stay true to the original aspiration, remove interference and keep China-Japan relations on the right track.

Wu Jianghao said that practical cooperation between China and Japan has a huge volume, deep foundation and broad prospects. "Decoupling and breaking chains" and "camp confrontation" run counter to the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples, and run counter to the trend of history and The Times. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has sounded the trumpet for a new journey of Chinese-style modernization, and China's major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and high-quality opening-up have been accelerated. This will surely provide new opportunities and inject fresh impetus into China-Japan exchanges and cooperation in various fields. The two sides should raise the level of cooperation, expand common interests and bring greater benefits to the two peoples.

Wu Jianghao emphasized that as a major country in the region and the world's second and third largest economies, China and Japan jointly shoulder the important responsibility of maintaining regional peace and stability. The two sides should uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core, the international order based on international law, and the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, resist the "cold war" mentality, and oppose conflict and confrontation.

The Ambassador expressed that this year marks the 45th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship. Standing at a new historical starting point, China hopes to work with Japan to review the spirit of the treaty, fulfill its obligations under the treaty and jointly promote peaceful development, so as to maintain the right direction of China-Japan relations and inject more positive energy into the turbulent world.

Wu Jianghao said that as the 13th Chinese Ambassador to Japan, who is at the crucial juncture of century-old changes and historical evolution, he has sincere expectations of maintaining and developing China-Japan relations. He will do his best to perform his duties and work tirelessly with people of vision in Japan to open up bright prospects for China-Japan relations in a new era.

Previously, Wu Jianghao served as Assistant Foreign Minister of China. His predecessor, Kong Xuanyou, left office on February 28th and returned home.
