(AseanAll) — On September 9, 2025, the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, J. Ramos-Horta, participated in a ceremony at the Embassy of Brazil to celebrate the 203rd anniversary of the Independence of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

In his speech, addressed to Ambassador Ricardo Lustosa Leal and the other guests, the Head of State affirmed it was a “very special honor” to mark the historic “Cry of Ipiranga,” which he described as a remarkable milestone in the affirmation of Brazil’s sovereignty, freedom, and national identity.
Ramos-Horta underscored the deep and valuable friendship between Timor-Leste and Brazil, brother countries united by the Portuguese language. He also highlighted Brazil’s fundamental role in supporting Timor-Leste’s institutional, social, and educational consolidation since the re-establishment of diplomatic relations in 2002. This historical bond, he stressed, was recently reinforced by the arrival of the new ambassador, a sign of a dynamic and future-oriented bilateral relationship.
The Head of State also reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s firm commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with Brazil, both in the spirit of South-South solidarity and within the framework of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).
The President concluded with wishes of health and success for President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva and of continuous progress and unity for the Brazilian people, ending his remarks with the words: “Long live Brazil! Long live the fraternal friendship between Timor-Leste and Brazil!”
