(AseanAll) — Myanmar Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, U Ko Ko Kyaw received Olandino Ruide Andrade, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Timor-Leste to Myanmar, on 24 July 2025 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar.
During the meeting, Andrade conveyed Timor-Leste’s strong commitment to fostering friendly relations with the ASEAN Member States, including Myanmar. He reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s dedication to upholding the principles of the ASEAN Charter, and expressed hope for support from the ASEAN Member States in the Country’s endeavor towards full membership in the regional bloc. He also expressed Timor Leste’s desire to strengthen bilateral ties with Myanmar and conveyed Timor Leste’s aspiration to welcome the establishment of Myanmar Embassy in Dili.
U Ko Ko Kyaw expressed appreciation for Timor-Leste’s readiness to deepen bilateral ties with Myanmar. He observed the willingness of the Foreign Minister of Timor Leste to visit Myanmar. He informed Myanmar’s continued engagement and active participation, in line with its foreign policy, in ASEAN Community-building efforts and its contributions towards the deliverables of the ASEAN Chair. He also emphasized the need to uphold the principle of non-interference in accordance with the ASEAN Charter on Timor-Leste’s path towards the ASEAN Membership.
The Deputy Minister also appreciated the constructive discussion between the Foreign Minister of Timor-Leste and the Head of Delegation of Myanmar to strengthen bilateral relations on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and related Meetings.
