Phnom Penh, June 26 (AseanAll) — The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) of Cambodia and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) have explored ways to boost bilateral trade and investment, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation through joint trade promotion and market expansion efforts.
The information was made in a meeting held in Phnom Penh on June 25,2025 between Samheng Bora, Secretary of State of MoC and MATRADE delegation, led by Zaimah Osman, Trade Commissioner of MATRADE.
The meeting, attended by the MoC under-secretaries of state, along with leaders and officials from the General Directorate of Trade Promotion (GDTP), underscored a shared commitment to strengthening economic engagement and advancing bilateral trade cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia.
The discussions focused on expanding trade and investment flows between the two countries, with both sides emphasising the potential of deeper collaboration between MATRADE and MoC to unlock new business opportunities.
In the meeting, both sides agreed to explore joint participation in trade fairs, business forums and other promotional platforms to boost exports and encourage cross-border partnerships, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Official figures showed that the bilateral trade between the two ASEAN nations rose by 17 percent to US$430 million in the first five months of this year.
Cambodia’s exports to Malaysia primarily consist of textiles, milled rice, and industrial products and the country imports auto spare parts, food and beverages, and electronic devices from Malaysia.
