Timor-Leste President Extends Condolences Following Air India Flight AI171 Tragedy

Dili, June 13(AseanAll)  — On June 13, 2025,Timor-Leste President and Nobel Peace Laureate, J. Ramos-Horta expressed his profound sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to India following the tragic crash of Air India flight AI171 near Ahmedabad Airport on June 12, 2025.

The aircraft, which was en route from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport, crashed in western India, resulting in significant loss of life and affecting passengers of multiple nationalities.

In a letter addressed to President of the Republic of India, Mrs Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on June 12, 2025, Ramos-Horta stated: 

“In this moment of mourning and grief, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, to the Government, to People of India, and in particular to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in this devastating catastrophe.”

The President expressed Timor-Leste’s solidarity with all affected families and praised the efforts of Indian authorities in conducting rescue operations and providing assistance to survivors. President also acknowledged the healthcare professionals who responded to the emergency and extended support to citizens of other nationalities who were aboard the flight.

Ramos-Horta emphasized that Timor-Leste continues to follow the situation with empathy and concern as India works to provide care for survivors and support to all those affected by this tragedy.

The President has conveyed Timor-Leste’s deepest solidarity and wishes for strength and serenity to the Government and people of India during this difficult time.
