Manila, June 12 (AseanAll) — Stressing that the country builds bridges instead of walls, Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on June 12, 2025 reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to international diplomacy and development partnerships as the country marked its 127th Independence Day,according to the Presidential Communications Office of the Philippines.
Addressing members of the diplomatic corps during the traditional Vin d’Honneur held in Malacañan Palace, the President emphasized the administration’s proactive foreign policy anchored on peace, collaboration and shared prosperity.
“Our diplomats are tasked to secure international support for the Philippines’ national development agenda and the global recognition of our role as a reliable partner, a trusted peacemaker, and an innovative pathfinder,” Marcos said in his toast remarks before foreign dignitaries, Cabinet officials, lawmakers and other government officials.
Marcos highlighted the country’s growth from a fledgling republic to an active member of the international community that leads advocacies on consequential global issues such as climate change, human rights, migration, regional stability and freedom in the seas.
“We build bridges not walls. We forge alliances that are based on mutual respect, reciprocity, and shared goals,” the President said.
Under Marcos’ leadership, Philippine diplomacy has focused on reintroducing the country to the world as open for business, seeking mutually beneficial cooperation with nations with the same values and aspirations.
Marcos reiterated his administration’s commitment to an independent foreign policy that promotes the Philippines’ strategic interests while contributing to global peace and development.
The President also acknowledged the role of the international diplomatic corps in supporting the government’s efforts and expressed gratitude for their collaboration in promoting stronger bilateral and multilateral relations.
Held every Independence Day, the Vin d’Honneur brings together foreign envoys and government leaders and serves as a platform for the Chief Executive to thank international partners and underscore the Philippines’ growing role in regional and global affairs.
