Jakarta, June 3 (AseanAll) — The Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arif Havas Oegroseno, signed the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), on 30 May 2025 in Hong Kong,China, according to the information released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia on June 3.
The signing reiterated the commitment of the Indonesian government in proactively maintaining international peace, as well as promoting friendly and cordial relations between States.
“Indonesia will remain proactive, not only during the establishment of IOMED but also in advocating for the use of mediation in state-to-state dispute resolution,” said Havas in his opening remarks for Global Forum on International Mediation, which was held as a part of the Convention’s signing ceremony.
Thirty-three countries joined Indonesia in signing the Convention, whilst a total of 400 high-level representatives from 85 countries and regions as well as nearly 20 international organizations, including the United Nations, attended both the signing ceremony and the Global Forum on International Mediation.
The establishment of IOMed marked an important milestone in promoting mediation for international conflict resolution.
Amidst the two events, Havas conducted a bilateral meeting with Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Hua Chunying. Both reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment in fully supporting the IOMed and advancing bilateral relations between Indonesia and China.
