(AseanAll) — Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized Indonesia's commitment to promoting a peaceful resolution to the Myanmar crisis. This was conveyed during the Extended Informal Consultation on the Implementation of the Five-Point Consensus held as part of the 46th ASEAN Summit on May 24, 2025, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.
"Indonesia remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting a peaceful resolution in Myanmar." Regional stability can only be achieved if ASEAN unites and acts based on the principles of consensus and solidarity," said Sugiono.
Sugiono reiterated the importance of fully implementing the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus (5PC), focusing on stopping violence, expanding humanitarian assistance, and ensuring an inclusive dialogue involving all stakeholders in Myanmar.
Sugiono also expressed full support for various Malaysian initiatives, as this year's ASEAN Chair, in facilitating the peaceful resolution of internal conflicts in Myanmar, as well as Indonesia's readiness to continue actively contributing to the restoration of democracy and stability in Myanmar.
"The strength of ASEAN lies in its unity." In facing the Myanmar crisis, we must speak with one voice and act with one purpose to push for the full implementation of the 5PC," emphasized Sugiono.
The Extended Informal Consultation on the Implementation of the Five-Point Consensus is an informal forum that brings together ASEAN Foreign Ministers and the Special Envoy for Myanmar to discuss the situation in Myanmar and promote more effective implementation of the Five-Point Consensus.
