Indonesian Foreign Minister and Finland's Foreign Minister Meet in Davos, Agree to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

(AseanAll)  — Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono held a bilateral meeting with Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland on January 22, 2025. This is the first meeting for the foreign ministers of both countries.


"I welcome Finland's support to strengthen economic cooperation with Indonesia, including support for the completion of the Indonesia-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations," said Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono. In the meeting, Sugiono expressed his hope that the partnership between the two countries could be further strengthened, particularly in the sectors of economy, health, digital infrastructure, and energy.

Sugiono also welcomed Finland's desire to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN, including the finalization of Finland's accession process to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

In this bilateral meeting, the development of the global situation was also discussed, including the situation in Ukraine. Valtonen expressed Finland's concern over the ongoing war in Ukraine.  Valtonen outlined Finland's efforts to promote peace in Ukraine, including within the framework of Finland's Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) this year.

To Finnish Foreign Minister Valtonen, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono also requested Finland's support to realize a two-state solution and peace in Palestine. Sugiono also emphasized the importance of rebuilding Gaza and supporting UNRWA.

Closing the meeting, Sugiono expressed appreciation for Finland's support for Indonesia's accession process to OECD membership.

Indonesia and Finland are partners collaborating on various bilateral and multilateral cooperations. Both countries will celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2024.
