Beijing,December 3 (AseanAll) — Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and President of the Senate of Cambodia, has suggested three key points to further strengthen and widen the relations and cooperation between Cambodia and China.
Hun Sen made the suggestions during a high-level meeting with Xi Jinping, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President of the People’s Republic of China, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on December 3,2024.
The three suggestions include continued strengthening of cooperation in the areas of security, fight against cross-border crime, fraud, online gambling and so on; of relations between party and party, especially the relations between their mass movements and external relations committees; and of foreign relations, particularly in regional and international forums.
Hun Sen requested the Chinese side to provide more grants, loans, and encourage more Chinese investments to Cambodia, which not only contributes to the Kingdom’s socio-economic development, but also helps strengthen her political independence.
Hun Sen thanked China for her support to the Funan Techo Canal project, which is not a new project, as it has been in existence since the time of King Ang Duong. This project will make Cambodia independent in terms of water transport and provide significant economic benefits, he underlined.
For his part, Xi Jinping shared the same ideas with Hun Sen over the relations between Cambodia and China, stressing that the two countries will continue to strengthen their mutual support as iron-clad friends for their core interest.
China and Cambodia should seize the opportunity to tighten their new win-win cooperation within the framework of Diamond Cooperation, Industrial and Technological Corridor, and Fish and Rice Corridor, said Xi Jinping, encouraging the synergy between China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy.
He added that Cambodia and China will continue deepening the people-to-people exchanges and working together to protect their common interest in a rapidly changing and complex international situation, as well as to contribute to maintaining global peace.
Xi Jinping accepted Hun Sen’s invitation to pay another state visit to Cambodia so that he could see numerous achievements in Cambodia compared to his previous visit in 2016.
