Indonesian Foreign Minister Urges All Countries to Support ASEAN in Realizing Transparent and Inclusive Regional Cooperation

(AseanAll)  — Indonesian Foreign Minister, Sugiono, attended the G-7 Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting Outreach Session with Indo-Pacific Partners in Fiuggi, Italy from November 25 to 26, 2024. Indonesia's presence at the G7 forum was at the invitation of the Italian Foreign Minister, who also invited other countries in the Indo-Pacific region, namely the Philippines, India, and South Korea.

In his statement, Sugiono conveyed Indonesia's commitment under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto to improve the welfare of the people and simultaneously contribute positively to the Indo-Pacific region through sustainable and inclusive development.

The Foreign Minister also reaffirmed Indonesia's consistency in making ASEAN the driving force of regional collaboration, as reflected in the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). In this challenging world, the AOIP aims to create a conducive situation for peace, stability, and prosperity through mutually beneficial cooperation.

"Indonesia hopes that all countries will respect and support ASEAN's views to ensure and promote transparent and inclusive cooperation in the region," said Sugiono.

Sugiono expressed appreciation to the G7 for supporting and cooperating with ASEAN through various ASEAN mechanisms. In accordance with the constitutional mandate, Indonesia will continue to be a bridge builder between developed and developing countries. For that reason, Indonesia always encourages membership in inclusive multilateral forums, the strengthening of multilateralism, and coordination between regional and international organizations.
In between the meetings, Sugiono also held bilateral meetings with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine and the Foreign Minister of South Korea. With the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, they discussed the peace process to achieve conflict resolution in Ukraine. Meanwhile, with the South Korean Foreign Minister, Sugiono discussed strengthening several bilateral cooperations, including in the fields of defense, shipbuilding industry, fisheries, and labor training.
