The 18th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Convenes in Vientiane, Laos

Vientiane,November 21 (AseanAll)  —  The 18th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) was held at the National Convention Centre, Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). 

The meeting was chaired by General Chansamone Chanyalath, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Lao PDR, in his capacity as the Chairman of ADMM for 2024.

Brunei Darussalam's delegation was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri  Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Defence II. Also in the delegation were Yang Mulia Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, along with other officers from the Ministry of Defence. Also attending the meeting was His Excellency Haji Roslan bin Haji Yacub, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to Lao PDR.

The 18th ADMM, held under the theme "Together for Peace, Security and Resilience," observed the adoption of various deliverables, including an Observership Protocol for ADMM-Plus EWGs and the approval of A Future Ready ADMM and ADMM-Plus: Strategy Paper, which was co-authored by Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Singapore. A key achievement of the meeting was the adoption of the Vientiane Joint Declaration on Together for Peace, Security and Resilience. 

On the sidelines of the 18th ADMM, one separate event was conducted, which was the ASEAN-US Defence Ministers’ Informal Meeting. Brunei Darussalam also held bilateral meeting with the Lao PDR, the Chairman of the 18th ADMM. Lao PDR also hosted the 11th ADMM-Plus the following day, 21 November 2024.
