Russia Deputy Foreign Minister Visits China after Wagner's Attempted coup

Beijing, June 25 (AseanAll)  — On June 25, 2023, Chinese State councillor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ludenko in Beijing.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides exchanged views on Sino Russian relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

On the previous day, on June 24, an attempted military coup occurred in Russia. The Russian private armed group Wagner captured the headquarters of Russia's Southern Military District in the southern Russian region of Rostov and said to march into Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered an emergency speech in which he said his country was facing a "betrayal" and instructed the military to take decisive action.

On the same day, under the mediation of  Lukashenko of President of Belarus, Wagner's leader Yevgeny Prigozhin ordered his armed forces to return to the camp. He himself went to Belarus, and Russia withdrew its criminal proceedings against him.

It is said that the reason for this attempted coup was a serious disagreement between Prygozin and the Russian Ministry of Defense over military operations in Ukraine.
