Hiroshima, May 22 (AseanAll) — Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Grand Prince Hotel, Hiroshima, Japan, on Saturday (20/05/2023).
During the meeting, the President appreciated the realisation of solar energy projects in Sumba and Hydro energy in Lombok, Bali, and West Sumatra, as well as a UK grant of approximately 11 million US Dollars for sustainable transportation in several Indonesian cities. "I hope it can be expanded to other cities, including the new Capital City Nusantara," the President said.
The President also expressed hope that the UK will realise its commitment to the Just Energy Transition Partnership, EV ecosystem development, including battery cell supply and EV micro factory development, as well as investment in the development of IKN, transportation, green energy, and education.
Regarding trade cooperation between the two countries, the President emphasised that discriminatory policies must be avoided. The President also hopes that the Due Diligence policy for agricultural and forestry products will not discriminate against Indonesia's main commodities.
Regarding ASEAN, the President said that at the 42nd ASEAN Summit, the leaders fully supported Indonesia's efforts to conduct engagements with all stakeholders. The President also appreciated Indonesia's efforts in facilitating the AHA Centre so that the Joint Needs Assessment can be completed. "The 5PC will remain the main reference in resolving the Myanmar conflict and the AHA Centre is working to distribute humanitarian assistance. This requires international support, including the UK," the President said.
During the meeting, Sunak also congratulated Jokowi on Indonesia's leadership in the G20. According to Sunak, Indonesia led the G20 successfully during its presidency.
Also accompanying Indonesian President during the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister for Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of State-owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Head of the National Capital Authority Bambang Susantono, Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi, and Director for East Asia at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Santo Darmosumarto.
