Jakarta, August 12 (AseanAll) — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and President of Peru, Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, held a bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace on 11 August 2025. The two Heads of State discussed concrete measures to strengthen trade relations, including the signing of the Indonesia–Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The visit by President Boluarte coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Peru, which falls on 12 August 2025. President Prabowo underscored that Peru is both a close friend and an important partner in the Latin American region. Despite the geographical distance, Indonesia and Peru share commonalities as Pacific nations committed to improving the welfare of their people and pursuing aligned interests.
“This visit holds special significance as tomorrow marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Peru. I am confident that our cooperation can be further strengthened, as we share common goals and aspirations for the prosperity of our people,” Prabowo stated.
During the preceding tête-à-tête session, the two leaders exchanged views on various bilateral matters. President Prabowo expressed hope that Peru would support Indonesia’s bid to become a member of the OECD and highlighted the vast potential for cooperation in the fisheries sector, noting Peru’s advanced fisheries industry.
This meeting marked the second engagement between the two leaders in less than a year, following their talks in Lima, Peru, in November 2024. It served as a strategic opportunity to outline tangible steps for expanding collaboration across multiple sectors. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to fostering close ties as fellow Pacific countries striving for development and shared prosperity.
