Dili, July 11 (AseanAll) — On July 11, 2025,The President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, J. Ramos-Horta, officially launched the second edition of the “Timor-Leste Women in Business Awards 2025”, with a call for practical action over theoretical workshops and emphasizing that entrepreneurs need tangible support like cash and equipment.
The President stressed that economic independence is a crucial tool for women to escape domestic violence and also challenged them to adopt a global vision, highlighting English as essential for competing in international markets.
The initiative aims to recognize women shaping the national economy across five categories: Economic Empowerment Initiatives, Women-Led Businesses in Dili and the Municipalities, Women Leaders in All Sectors, and Leadership in Financial Services.
The President launched a national call for nominations to “elevate the stories and voices” of inspiring women, expressing hope that the awards will motivate a new generation of leaders, with the certainty that “their country stands with them.”
The initiative also aims to recognize and give visibility to women who, from Dili to the most remote municipalities, are shaping the national economy, transforming sectors and building more inclusive communities.
