Chiang Mai, July 5 (AseanAll) — The 37th Thailand-Myanmar Regional Border Committee Meeting, hosted by Thailand, was held from July 3 to 4 in Chiang Mai,according to Myanmar News Agency.
Lt-Gen Nyunt Win Swe from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) led the Myanmar delegation, which included senior Tatmadaw officers and officials from relevant departments. The Thai delegation was headed by Lt-Gen Kittipong Jamsuwan and accompanying members.
The meeting focused on sector-specific discussions concerning trust-building, border cooperation, drug prevention, demarcation issues and other related matters.
The two heads of delegation officially signed the agreements of the 37th meeting.
Later that afternoon of July 4, Lt-Gen Nyunt Win Swe and the Myanmar delegation departed from Chiang Mai to Bangkok aboard a Tatmadaw aircraft. In Bangkok, they held separate meetings with General Thongchai Rodyoi, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army, and Gen Pongtep Gaewchaiyo, Commandant of the National Defence College of Thailand. Discussions included Thailand’s swift humanitarian assistance following the 28 March Mandalay earthquake, bilateral military cooperation and outcomes of the 37th Regional Border Committee Meeting.
During their stay in Thailand, the Myanmar delegation also visited Wat Pa Dara Phirom Phra Aram Laung, Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden and Central Festival Chiang Mai Shopping Mall.
