Indonesian President and Malaysian PM Agree to Support a Peaceful Solution for Palestine and the Middle East Region

(AseanAll)  —  President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim held a meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on June 27,2025. In addition to strengthening the relationship between the two countries, the meeting also highlighted various strategic global issues, ranging from conflicts in the Middle East to the dynamics of the Southeast Asian region.

"At the global level, we discussed the developments in the Iran-Israel conflict, as well as the current situation in Palestine." We continue to advocate for a peaceful resolution among all parties. We welcome the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. We hope this can be lasting and continue towards a peaceful resolution," said Prabowo in a joint press statement after the meeting.

Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia and Malaysia share a common view on the importance of peaceful resolutions in conflict areas. Both countries also agreed to fully support the independence of Palestine.

"Regarding Palestine, we continue to support Palestinian independence." Only a two-state solution can end that conflict. Indonesia and Malaysia see the need for a global collective effort to promote the peaceful resolution of conflicts," said Prabowo.

In line with Prabowo, Anwar Ibrahim also emphasized the importance of ASEAN's role and bilateral cooperation in facing various global challenges. He expressed appreciation for Indonesia's leadership in the region, including in addressing conflicts in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

In addition, Anwar also emphasized Indonesia's active role in helping to resolve the conflict in Myanmar. Anwar also highlighted the developments in the situation in Gaza and the Iran-Israel tensions, and conveyed Malaysia's firm stance against Israeli aggression. He welcomed the ongoing ceasefire.

Prabowo also referred to PM Anwar's visit as a manifestation of their joint commitment to continue strengthening cross-sector cooperation. Not only that, this visit also forms part of the series leading up to the annual bilateral meeting to be held next July.

The meeting between the two Heads of State serves as evidence of the diplomatic alignment between the two countries in striving for global peace, while also strengthening the strategic positions of Indonesia and Malaysia amidst the world's geopolitical dynamics.
