Karawang Regency, June 29 (AseanAll) — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on June 29,2025 officiated the groundbreaking of SEA’s largest integrated EV battery project by the ANTAM-IBC-CBL consortium at Artha Industrial Hills (AIH) in Karawang regency, West Java province, marking a key step in Indonesia’s downstreaming and energy transition efforts.
On that occasion, the President surmised that developing an integrated EV battery ecosystem is a tangible step toward achieving Indonesia’s long-standing national goals, adding that the idea of downstreaming is not a novel concept, but one that is firmly rooted in the country’s history.
“The downstreaming goal has long existed. Our first President Bung Karno envisioned this. And, our succeeding presidents have continued and implemented this,” he said, adding that the project reflects Indonesia’s commitment to promoting environmentally friendly energy.
The President also welcomed strategic collaboration with global partners in developing this green battery industry ecosystem.
“We are partnering with our partners from China. We can collaborate on a program that I believe is truly monumental, a breakthrough initiative. From here, we can produce the renewable and environmentally friendly energy the world aspires to,” he said.
This inauguration marks one of Indonesia’s concrete steps in accelerating the energy transition.
The project is expected to strengthen national industrial self-reliance by utilizing strategic minerals in the global EV supply chain.
