During the meeting, Hun Sen warmly welcomed Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and his delegation, noting that the visit marked an important step in enhancing the bilateral ties between the two countries.

He noted that the bilateral relationship has continued to flourish over the decades.

On the occasion, Hun Sen encouraged both nations to further expand cooperation in the areas of trade, economy, and tourism. He also expressed his wish to see more direct flights from Singapore to Cambodia, particularly in light of Cambodia’s upcoming launch of its new international airport.

Additionally, Hun Sen briefed Lawrence Wong on the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, starting from the clash on May 28, which led to the unilateral closure of the border by Thailand and other subsequent threats.

He emphasised that Cambodia does not seek war with its neighbour and wishes to resolve the issue peacefully, in accordance with international law. However, if violations and invasions persist, Cambodia reserves the right to defend its sovereignty.
