Subang Jaya, June 19 (AseanAll) — The President of the Republic of Timor-Leste and Nobel Peace Laureate, J. Ramos-Horta, has been appointed Honorary Adjunct Professor at Taylor’s University in Subang Jaya, Malaysia, within the framework of the Bachelor in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) Honours programme.
This historic appointment represents a significant milestone in the university’s efforts to integrate real leadership and global perspectives into its academic body, offering students a unique opportunity to learn from a true agent of change.
As Honorary Adjunct Professor, Ramos-Horta will engage with students through lectures on contemporary regional and global issues, drawing on his vast experience as a political leader and diplomat. His contributions will focus on themes such as leadership, governance and economic development, enriching the PPE programme with practical and inspiring approaches.
Upon accepting the appointment, the President stated, “Education is one of the most powerful instruments we have to shape a more just, compassionate and peaceful world. I feel honoured to join Taylor’s University and enthusiastically welcome the opportunity to share my experiences with the students.”
Alongside this appointment, Taylor’s University has established the President Ramos-Horta Scholarship, aimed at supporting a Timorese student with proven academic merit and commitment to global impact. This initiative reinforces the university’s commitment to accessible and excellent education, complementing the more than RM30 million in scholarships made available for the September 2025 admission process.
The partnership promises to further strengthen educational and cooperation ties between Timor-Leste and the Southeast Asian region.
