ASEAN Launches the Framework of ASEAN Industrial Projects Based Initiative to Drive Regional Industrial Competitiveness

Kuala Lumpur, May 26 (AseanAll)  — In an effort to strengthen ASEAN’s regional industrial cooperation and enhance ASEAN’s position in global value chains, ASEAN launches the Framework of ASEAN Industrial Projects Based Initiative (AIPBI) earlier today. Adopted by the ASEAN Economic Community Council (AECC) in its 25th meeting, the Framework marks ASEAN’s renewed commitment to revitalise industrial cooperation in the region by fostering joint development and catalysing high-impact industrial projects across ASEAN.

Industrial cooperation has long been recognised as a cornerstone of ASEAN’s vision for regional economic integration, contributing 37.5%, or more than one-third, of the region’s economy. As geopolitical tensions and economic fragmentation challenge traditional global value chains, ASEAN’s renewed focus on industrial cooperation positions the region to respond with coordinated and action-oriented approach. The AIPBI not only enhances ASEAN’s global competitiveness but also reinforces its commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-driven growth.

Launched as a follow-up to the Ministerial Declaration on the Framework of AIPBI adopted in 2023, the Framework was developed through a series of national consultation and workshop involving relevant ASEAN sectoral bodies and private sector representatives, with support from the UK government.

The AIPBI framework envisions ASEAN Member States collaborating on strategic selected industrial projects that leverage regional complementarities and deliver tangible economic value. Through this initiative, ASEAN can pool its strengths, attract quality investment, and develop regional industrial champions that are globally competitive.
