Phnom Penh, June 14 (AseanAll)  — Cambodia and Cuba have pledged to further promote the collaboration on gender sector between the two countries.

The pledge was made in a meeting in Phnom Penh on June 12 between Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Cambodian Minister of Women’s Affairs and Ms. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra, newly appointed Ambassador of Cuba to Cambodia.

Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi briefed Ms. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra on the Royal Government’s National Action Plan on the Prevention of Violence against Women and the Neary Rattanak VI Strategic Plan, which is a roadmap to promote the gender equality, and increase the economic empowerment for women in Cambodia.

The minister informed the ambassador of her intention to lead a delegation to visit Cuba, the purposes of which are to seek understanding on and learn about Cuba’s best practices in advancing women’s situation in leadership, health and economics, particularly promoting the people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi and Ms. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra spoke highly of the long-lasting friendship and good collaboration between the two governments in all sectors, especially in human resources development, health and foreign affairs.

They also shared their respective countries’ situations and challenges related to domestic violence, gender-based violence, health, climate change adaptation, and leadership in the public and political spheres.
