Indonesia Urges Immediate Recognition of Palestine, Calls for UNGA Resolution ES-10/24 Implementation

(AseanAll)  — Retno L.P. Marsudi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, delivered a strong statement at the Ministerial Meeting on the Situation in Gaza and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution as a Path to a Just and Comprehensive Peace.

In her speech, Retno emphasised the importance of recognition of the State of Palestine, which she considered a crucial step towards realising the two-state solution. She emphasised that this recognition not only gives hope to the Palestinian people, but is also an important way to put political pressure on Israel to stop the atrocities.

Retno rejected the views of some countries that delayed the recognition of Palestine by waiting for the "right time". "When will be the right time? For me, the right time is now. The right time is now. We don't want to wait until all Palestinians are displaced, until 100,000 people killed? To say that this is the right time," she said.

In addition, Retno also highlighted the urgency of implementing UN General Assembly Resolution ES-10/24, which demands Israel to end its illegal presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. She emphasised that hopes for peace will be dashed if UN member states lack the courage and heart to pressure a single state to comply with the resolution.

Indonesia, through Minister Retno's statement, urged all countries to ensure the implementation of this resolution. "Indonesia urges all countries to ensure that the implementation of the resolution happens," she added.
