Thai Foreign Minister has a bilateral discussion with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister in Kuala Lumpur

(AseanAll)  — 26 May 2025, Maris Sangiampongsa, Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a bilateral discussion with Ma Zhaoxu, Vice Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of 

, on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit and other related meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Both sides agreed to increase cooperation to tackle transboundary challenges, especially online scams, cross-border haze pollution, water quality in the Kok and Sai Rivers, and on water management in general. Regarding the quality of water in the Kok and Sai Rivers, the Thai side conveyed concerns about impacts on the local Thai population, while the Chinese side underlined the importance placed on this problem by the Chinese government, expressing their readiness to work with Thailand on this issue.

In addition, both sides agreed to work closely to promote peace and post-quake recovery efforts in Myanmar, while the Chinese side appreciated the constructive role of Thailand in supporting peaceful dialogue. 

They also exchanged views on the current global economic uncertainties.
